For two workshops booked at the same time, and performed consecutively on the same school day
e.g. two workshops performed in the morning ( price includes travel - no VAT)


3 workshops on the same day = £460
For three workshops booked at the same time, and performed on the same school day

PLEASE NOTE -  A two show minimum booking may apply to schools on the outskirts,
or outside the South-East region served by Creative Education UK. For those schools much
further afield, an additional £35 may be added to the two show minimum booking price.



History Workshops

SAMUEL PEPYS,PLAGUE & FIRE - London's Burning
It's 1665 and London is in the grip of the Great Plague, we meet Samuel Pepys who tells us a little about it, and we all sing 'Ring of Roses'.  Then its 1666, the eve before the fire, and we learn of his diary. The Great Fire begins ! Some of the children are dressed up as the main characters involved, including the Lord Mayor and King Charles himself, some move as the fire and the river Thames, as we try to put the fire out ! We sing 'London's Burning!', and are told of how and where the fire started, how London is to be re-built, & finish with Samuel's favourite dance!


   

WORLD WAR TWO - Blitzes & Peaces
The air raid siren howls, the smoke bellows ! We meet the Air Raid Warden. Two of the children are trained as Wardens, we learn about the Warden's duties, the Blitz, the Blackout & rationing. All join in a mock air raid ! Then we meet Sgt Tommy, who's looking for Homeguard volunteers, and gets the children up marching! Evacuation and the role of women are both touched upon. All sing and march to favourite wartime songs, and dance to 'In the Mood' ...Fact and fun filled !

   
PIRATES - Ahoy there Shipmates !
Meet Pirate Jim. He's stolen Blackbeard's treasure map! and needs some help him to find the buried treasure, but first all we learn some pirate talk and sing a pirate song. Then Blackbeard himself appears, all learn the pirate's motto and obey his orders in a pirate game. Some will join his crew, dishing out some pirate justice - walking the plank ! We end with a pirate dance on board ship. There are parrots, planks and eye patches aplenty, swashbuckling good fun !

 
THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS - Walk Like an Egyptian !
We Meet Paneb, craftsman to the tomb of Pharoah Tutankhamen. He tells us about his job, & we learn how to mummify someone using a skeleton & plastic body organs! We then learn a little of the Afterlife, the weighing of the heart, the Valley of the Kings, sing a slave pyramid building song, & meet some of the gods, as some children dress up. More children then join in & dress up to tell the legend of 'Isis & Osiris', ending with an energetic Egyptian dance for all !

     
STORYTIME - Classic Tales
Say hello to Mr. Storyteller, bringing classic fairytales to life. In all workshops, children dress up, act out scenes & sing songs, ending with a dance ! Great for Book Week, Literacy Hour or as a treat ! Choose any 2 from below...

MULTI-CULTURAL STORIES
The Ramayana & Anansi the Spider

Two stories from different cultures meet in this interactive re-telling - first the epic tale of good versus evil in the Indian story of the Ramayana, with children dressing up as Prince Rama, the Princess, the Monkey King and the Demon King himself!  This is followed by a West African Nigerian folktale of the clever trickster Anansi the Spider. Again, several children will dress up and act out the story. We end with all  participating with a dance from Egypt. This workshop gives an energetic and fun glimpse of just two stories to kickstart more detailed follow-up work into different myths and beliefs.

 
   
TUDORS - The Rich, the Poor & the Henry
We meet a Tudor peasant, preparing for the May Day festival. in his village. We learn about his harsh life, sand then some perform a peasant dance, and others  an archery contest. We then meet a Mr .B.Head, the executioner at Tower Hill, and learn a little of Tudor punishment, & of King Henry's wives. Finally, meet Mr Noble, glimpse into life at King Henry's court, and end with a courtly dance, and with King Henry's favourite - a mini-jousting competition !

 
   
TUDORS - The Tudor Explorers & Good Queen Bess
Meet Francis Drake ! He tells us of the defeat of the Spanish Armada, and a little about his life, before having children dress up as his crew to tell us of the Age of Exploration, taking us around the world ! We trade spices, battle storms, claim countries, all for England! We are then given a glimpse into life at the court of Queen Elizabeth I, with some children performing an Elizabethan dance, followed by a mini-jousting competition. A wonderful introduction to an exciting and glorious age!

     
THE ANCIENT GREEKS - It's all Greek Theatre to me !
We Meet Thespis - the world's first ever actor ! He's preparing for the festival of Dionysus and needs the children's help to put on a play, the myth of 'Perseus & Medusa'. We learn how modern plays began, how Athens got its name, and an get an understanding of the world of the Greek theatre - some children will dress up and become the actors, whilst others will become the chorus and musicians. All will act out and sing a song, ending with a fun Greek dance ! A funny, energetic and fact filled introduction to Ancient Greek theatre and culture.

 
   
THE ANCIENT ROMANS -  Romulus & Remus
We meet Julius Caesar and the children bow! He tells us about his fears for his life, as he speaks of the Roman Empire and his unsuccessful invasion of Britain. Some children dress up as Legionaries, and we get a glimpse into life in the Roman army. Most of the workshop concerns the re-telling of the legend of 'Romulus & Remus', about the birth of Rome itself, with some children dressing up and acting out the story. We end with a 'Hail Caesar!' song for all. A highly interactive and energetic story-telling Roman workshop !

     
THE ANGLO-SAXONS - Beowulf & Grendel
We Meet Hengest, Saxon settler, and now fighting the Viking under his new leader, King Alfred. He tells us a little about the Viking invasions, and we get a glimpse into the history of the Saxon people,the making of England, and their Gods. Most of the workshop concerns the telling of the epic tale 'Beowulf', with some children dressing up as Grendel, Grendel's mother, his soldiers, and Beowulf himself, and all singing Grendel's song. An exciting telling of a classic Saxon tale !

 
   
THE VIKINGS -  Let's Go Beserk !
Fresh from batlle, we meet Bjorn, Viking warrior ! He tells us about the Viking raids, the invasion of Britain, and their fights with the Saxons,  led by Alfred. Some children become the infamous Beserker warriors, defending the camp, and all then join him in a longboat song. A Viking story is then told, with some children dressing up and acting out the tale. Finally, we finish with a Saxon bashing song, and all chant and stomp to in a  Viking dance to the Gods!

     
THE VICTORIANS - We are not amused ?!
Meet George Cotton, rich cotton mill owner, who is looking for some new maids for his house, some children dress up as them. He tells us a little of  Victorian family life, and we all sing a song. We then meet Jack Skint, he tells us of factory life, the poor, child labour & the slums - some children dress up as his mates; then meet PC Constable, who tells us of crime & punishment & enlists some help in catching some local thieves. We end with all performing a Victorian dance. A multi-faced, fact-filled introduction to Victorian society !

     
GUY FAWKES - Gunpowder, Treason & Plot
Meet Guy Fawkes, just returned from Spain. He's plotting to kill King James, and needs to meet his other conspirators. Some children dress up and recite an oath to keep secret their deeds. We then meet one of the King's soldiers who tells us of Guy Fawke's capture, and enlists some of the children as fellow soldiers to lay siege to the plotters.They are caught, tried and sentenced. We end in modern times with an interactive firework song for all, and a bonfire night dance. A great fun and interesting way to let children know why we still celebrate each year on November 5th.
   

KNIGHTS & CASTLES - Lancelot, George & The Dragon
It's Sir Lancelot ! He needs some new Knights for King Arthur's roundtable. All recite the Code of Chivalry and some participate in a courtly dance.  The children are then told the story of famous knight St.George, with some children acting and dressing up as George, the Princess, and of course the dreaded dragon himself ! Finishing with a mini-jousting tournament and a dragon song. Great interactive fun !

     
FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE & THE CRIMEA - Lady of the Lamp
Meet William Nightingale, Florence's father, he's looking for some new maids, some will dress up, as he tells us a little about Florence's childhood, & all then perform a Victorian dance. Then, we are taken to the Crimea with Sgt Harry Wells. He tells us about a soldier's life, some children dress up & join him on the battlefield, & we learn of the terrible conditions. Others dress up as Florence  and her nurses, who then treat the wounded soldiers at Scutari. We end with a song & learn of Florence's legacy. A factual, fun introduction to the Lady of the Lamp.
