The Explorers group is a great group to start your child's writing journey. 

 

This group is perfect for young writers who love telling stories, creating characters, and dreaming up new worlds in their play and their writing.

 

Through fun and engaging activities, children will develop their confidence in writing, expand their vocabulary, and learn how to structure simple but exciting stories. With a focus on creativity rather than technical perfection, The Explorers nurtures a love of storytelling in a playful and encouraging environment.

Word Play & Vocabulary Growth – Expanding word choices through fun challenges and word banks. Making up our own words (Roald Dahl style). 

Describing with the Senses – Learning how to bring stories to life using sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.

Creating Unique Characters – Designing heroes, villains, and magical creatures.

Setting the Scene – Writing about real and imagined places.

Building Strong Sentences – Playing with different sentence types and beginnings.

Story Structure Basics – Understanding beginning, middle, and end.

Exploring Different Kinds of Stories – Writing adventure, mystery, fairy tales, and silly stories.

Showing not telling  – Showing characters’ feelings through actions and their speech.

Dialogue Made Easy – Introducing simple conversations in stories.

Exciting Openings – Learning how to start a story with action or mystery.

Planning stories - Utilising different tools to help us plan stories and fictional texts. 

Telling Stories in Different Ways – Writing from an animal’s or object's point of view.

Exploring other writing genres – Exploring simple poetry, rhyming stories, and songs. 

Exploring non-fiction texts -  using newspaper reports, diaries and instructions to create other engaging texts. 

Group Storytelling – Creating collaborative tales to inspire new ideas through games and activities. 

Celebrating Our Writing – Showcasing our writing through shared blogs and celebratory sessions.
